The Nozawa Onsen Guide app is designed with privacy in mind. We collect minimal data necessary to provide group coordination and navigation features. Your location is always optional, and we never sell your data.

- Display name — So group members can identify you
- Device identifier — To maintain your session and group membership
Optional Information
- Location — Only when you choose to share it, for map display and meetup coordination
- Check-ins — When you check in to locations (restaurants, onsens, etc.)
- Meetup locations — When you create or join meetups
- Accommodation details — If you choose to share where you're staying with your group
How We Use Your Data
- Map display — Showing your location to group members (when enabled)
- Group coordination — Facilitating meetups and check-ins with your travel group
- Navigation — Providing directions to points of interest
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the app's core functionality.
Data Sharing
Your information is only visible to members of groups you join. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services:
- Mapbox — For maps and navigation (Mapbox Privacy Policy)
- Railway — For backend hosting (Railway Privacy Policy)
Data Retention
- Check-ins — Automatically expire after 1 hour
- Meetups — Automatically expire 2 hours after the scheduled time
- Group membership — Retained until you leave the group
- Location data — Not stored permanently; only transmitted in real-time when sharing is enabled
Your Controls
You have full control over your data:
- Location sharing — Toggle on/off at any time
- Check out — Remove yourself from any check-in instantly
- Leave groups — Exit any group at any time, removing your data from that group
- Delete account — Contact us to request complete data deletion
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
- All data transmitted via HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Backend hosted on Railway with standard security practices
- No passwords stored — authentication via device identifier
Children's Privacy
The Nozawa Onsen Guide app is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
